July 2021 Chapter News

Northeast Florida Chapter

Northeast Florida

Chapter Coordinator: Debi Garner
(941) 952-9293

Wednesday, May 12 we had a CE class on digital controls sponsored by Fluidra. Thank you to Leslie Coleman for educating us all and thank you to Connor McGowan and Alex Krajewski for contributing their expertise. There were more than 20 people in attendance and 14 seeking CE credits.

It was another hot day in Northeast Florida on Saturday, June 12!  A brave group of 30 went out deep sea fishing aboard The Majesty fishing vessel. A few unlucky souls helped feed the fish but most everyone caught something for dinner.

Please mark your calendars for July 14 when we will be back at Maggiano’s. Watch your emails for the RSVP form.  There will be a great presentation from attorney Austin Calhoun. Mr. Calhoun is a partner of Jimerson Birr and will be speaking to us specifically about contracts and how to protect ourselves as contractors during these tumultuous times of constant price increases. Please invite the home builders or other contractors you may do business with who would benefit from this meeting.

Mr. Calhoun joined Jimerson Birr in October 2011.  Since then he has served various corporations, entrepreneurs, financial institutions, and small, mid, and large businesses in business litigation, corporate governance, and transactional matters.  His specialties range from construction disputes and business torts to construction liens, contracts, negotiation, project guidance, purchase and sale transactions, mergers and acquisitions, loan originations, workouts, and foreclosures, creditor bankruptcy representation, and trademarks. Prior to law school, Mr. Calhoun obtained his certified general contractor’s license and became a LEED Accredited Professional while working in the local construction industry.

In August we will have another CE class. Please give us your feedback as to which class you would like to have at this meeting; the date is still to be set. September 10 will be the Annual Skeet Shoot at Jacksonville Clay Target Shooting. October we will be back at Speck Pumps for Oktoberfest.  November 17 is the Table Top event!

IMPORTANT: There are going to be several Director positions opening on the Board in the coming year. Debi Garner, our long-time executive director/chapter coordinator/wearer of many hats, is stepping down again! If you are interested in this position, please contact anyone on the Board.  Additionally, Brian Curts’, our current treasurer, term will be coming to an end. In accordance with our bylaws, you must have been on the Board as a Director for at least one year to assume this position.  If you have an interest in serving your Chapter, let Debi Garner know.  Ballots will be going out in the fall and we need some new names on the ballot.  Help support your industry.  It does not take much time and you will be rewarded many times over by volunteering.

Please submit any and all suggestions to the Board for events and classes you would like to see us offer for next year. Remember this is your Chapter and your voice counts.
